The heart of the Safari Intercooled Turbocharger System is a super-compact and highly robust air-cooled turbocharger with custom Safari aerodynamic configuration. Through thorough engineering and development, the result is a turbocharger that is ideally suited to the dynamics of the vehicle and with extremely high durability compared to regular diesel spec turbochargers commonly found in retrofit turbo systems.

Whilst Safari delivers the base Safari turbocharger system at durable 160 horsepower, the highly advanced Safari Intercooled Turbo system raises the bar to 200 horsepower by engineering additional components that address the specific thermal and gas flow requirements of a high power Toyota 1HZ engine - to deliver even greater engine performance and high engine durability.
In order to reduce the thermal load on the turbocharged 1HZ engine, efficient intercooling is employed to chill the compressed charge air before it enters into the engine intake manifold.
A huge 16" x 12" x 2.5" intercooler assembly is cleverly packaged inside the engine bay envelope and is fed a huge volume of fresh air via a robust and durable engine mounted cast alloy scoop. In addition, the Safari Intercooler design solves potential engine overheating issues that would most certainly be experienced by systems that employ intercoolers mounted in front of the stock radiator core (which is designed by Toyota to cool a 130 horsepower engine with GVM of 3500 kg). Better still is the intercooler scoop/hood panel interface that encourages air to flow out from the engine bay to promote even greater air flow through the stock engine coolant radiator.
There is no doubt that the Safari Intercooler system delivers the ultimate intercooling performance and engine durability under extreme high temperature and high load conditions typically experienced in armoured vehicles applications.
High Output Exhaust System
Unlike intercooling which lowers the intake charge air temperature, a highly efficient exhaust system evacuates hot exhaust gasses quickly from the exhaust manifold and promotes cooler combustion chamber temperatures - thus further lowering the thermal load upon the high power turbocharged Toyota 1HZ engine.
Safari has developed what is arguably the ultimate in maximum efficiency exhaust systems for the armoured vehicle industry. Precision manufactured in true 3" tube for high gas flow capacity, Aluminized steel for corrosion resistance, mandrel bent for maximum flow efficiency and 4-bolt flanged exhaust connections for high strength, unmatched fatigue resistance and a lifetime of leak-free operation. Moreover, the Safari exhasut system has been designed for the maximum clearance to vital components, zero contact with body and suspension and installation is a breeze.
The result is a superb exhaust system that delivers almost 100% improvement in exhaust gas flow capacity and with the added benefit of exhaust sound levels close to that of the stock vehicle.
|The Safari Intercooled Turbocharger system is a thoroughly engineered turnkey system designed to deliver the highest possible engine durability at 190 horsepower (SAE NET) and addresses the specific requirements of powering the 5500 GVM of a fully armoured 76 series carrying ten passengers, in ambient conditions from minus 20C to plus 50C.
