The performance of a turbocharger is influenced by the amount of energy available from the exhaust gasses. As with most turbocharger systems, at a high engine speed there is a good deal of energy to produce high power. However, where other turbocharger systems fall short is low engine speed torque. 

We at APS believe that strong low to mid RPM torque is critical for excellent vehicle and towing performance as well as the best fuel economy. 

A simple solution is to specify a very small turbocharger that does not require high exhaust gas energy to produce boost at low engine speeds. The drawback here is that this results in poor performance at high engine RPM.

It allows us to specify a large turbocharger to produce optimum boost pressure and have the turbocharger operating in its peak efficiency envelope without compromising low RPM response. This means lower intake charge temperatures - critical for durable engine operation. 
 
In the standard exhaust manifold the exhaust gasses from the front 3 and rear 3 cylinders clash together with a significant loss of exhaust gas energy. This results in lower energy to drive a turbocharger.
